WASHINGTON, July 30 (Itar-Tass) - Italian Foreign Minister FrancoFrattini said here Tuesday relations between Russia and NATO had been one of the items on the agenda of his talks with the U.S. Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice.
Frattini said at a news conference he had told Rice about Italy's readiness to continue motivating Russia towards improvements in relationswith NATO.
He indicated that Italy has perfect relations with Russia, which makes it possible for Rome to play an encouraging role in the efforts to consolidate Russia's cooperation with the North-Atlantic pact, as well asin the discussions of what he called a delicate situation in the Caucasus.
Frattini said that the Iranian nuclear dossier had also come into thefocus of attention at the talks.
He reiterated that the prospects for Iran's creating nuclear armaments are totally unacceptable, adding that this is a firm position on the partof his country.
Frattini warned that Italy would not remain an idle observer of the situation unless Iran began to treat the idea of talks with Europe and theinternational community seriously.
