MALAYSIA HOPES TO BE RE-ELECTED TO ICAO COUNCIL
KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia hopes to be re-elected to the
International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Council during its 37th
Assembly in Montreal, Canada on Tuesday.
As a member of ICAO, Malaysia could contribute towards the development of a
safer, more efficient and progressive global aviation regime.
Tranport Minister Kong Cho Ha will lead the Malaysian delegation
to the assembly which ends on Oct 8, according to a statement from the ministry
Monday.
During the session, Malaysia will also have bilateral discussions with
Singapore, South Africa, Republic of Korea, China, United Arab Emirates, Timor
Leste and the United States.
ICAO is a specialised agency of the United Nations, created in 1944 to
promote the safe and orderly development of international civil aviation.
Malaysia has been a Contracting State of ICAO since May 7, 1958 and is the
72nd Contracting State of ICAO.
ICAO's aims and objectives are to develop the principals and techniques of
international air navigation and to foster the planning and development of
international air transport.
It sets standards and regulations and serves as a forum for cooperation.
