FEASIBILITY STUDY OF RECONSTRUCTION OF MARABDA-AKHALKALAKI PART OF BAKU-TBILISI-KARS RAILWAY TO BE REVISED

Baku, august 2,(AzerTAj)The proposals prepared by the Kyiv Design Institute to reconstruct the Marabda-Akhalkalaki part of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway will be revised.

Senior engineer of the State Railway Gurban Nazirov said the value of the project is higher than scheduled financial limit. Azerbaijani side proposed to revise the feasibility study. The Institute set the freight flow at 15 million tons whiletechnical characteristics of the railroad were based on the 3-5 million tons.

According to him, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars transport corridor will cost $1 billion. The money will be spent on building the new 101km-long railway, reconstructing the 160km part of the railway in the Georgian section and creating the station for changingtrain wheels.
