YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, August 2 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian tanker "SKF
Khibiny" has saved 13 crewmen from the sunk Indonesian cargo ship "Damari Lestori". The ship sank in the Strait of Malacca in the Andaman Sea.

The tanker belongs to the Sovkomflot shipping company.

The company's press service reported that the Russian tanker's crew
noted two life rubber rafts with people on them in the front of the sea at
9:00 loca time on Friday. The captail of the Khibiny tanker Sergei Bukvich
decided to take the people in distress onboard after agreement with the coastal services.

The rescue operation lasted for several hours. The
people on the rafts turned out to be the crewmen from the Damai Lestari
cargo ship which sank earlier that day after colliding with an unknown
ship.
The Russian sailors gave first aid to the rescued Indonesian crewmen.
Their physical condition is normal. The Khibiny tanker is to take them to
Indonesia.
The SKF Khibiny was built in 2002. Its lifting capacity is 159, 000
tones. The tanker carries oil across the world ocean.
