Dockers score easy win over Eagles

(AAP) - Fremantle have sent off club stalwart Shaun McManus in grand style, cruising to a 33-point AFL victory over arch-rivals West Coast in a one-sided western derby clash at Subiaco Oval.

Dockers skipper Matthew Pavlich (four goals, 22 possessions, nine inside 50s) and fellow spearhead Luke McPharlin (five goals) tore West Coast's youthful defence to shreds as Fremantle romped to their third win on the trot, 17.14 (116) to 12.11 (83).

Pavlich, who roamed through the midfield and across half-forward, won the Ross Glendinning medal as best afield while McManus (21 disposals) was prolific in his final match, soaking up the cheers from the 42,096 mostly pro-Dockers crowd.

Mark LeCras booted four goals for the Eagles while Ben McKinley (two goals, 18
touches) and Steven Armstrong (24 possessions) tried valiantly, but with Fremantle
dominating the clearances (36-23) and pumping the ball inside 50 on 12 more
occasions, the result was never in doubt.
It was Fremantle's fifth win in their past six clashes against the Eagles, although
West Coast still lead the head-to-head tally 18-10.
The Dockers lost defenders Roger Hayden and Josh Head before the bounce and the
Eagles took full advantage early, sneaking out to an 11-point lead inside the
opening nine minutes before Pavlich and McPharlin stamped their authority on the
contest.
The star pair made light work of defenders Beau Wilkes, Eric Mackenzie and Darren
Glass to boot three goals apiece in the first quarter to lift the Dockers to a
commanding 31-point advantage at the first break.
Even a 60m monster goal from Quinten Lynch couldn't inspire West Coast out of their
slump in the second quarter as Fremantle's runners continued to dominate through the
middle.
Pavlich and McPharlin booted their fourth goal during the term as the Dockers headed
to the break with a 41-point cushion.
Two goals in as many minutes to LeCras and another to McKinley saw West Coast close
the margin to 24 points midway through the third term.
But the Eagles' challenge was short-lived, with McPharlin's fifth goal of the
afternoon and a two-goal burst to Kepler Bradley ensuring the Dockers headed to the
final break with a match-winning 35-point lead.
The focus of the last term was whether McManus could kick a goal to cap off his
228-game career but despite being perched in the forward line the 32-year-old
couldn't muster the final highlight, with the Eagles booting the only two goals of
the quarter.
"They helped me out today and I love them dearly ... they made a real big effort for
me today," McManus said after the match.
The Dockers' fifth win of the season sees Mark Harvey's charges leapfrog Port
Adelaide into 13th spot on the table, while West Coast remain a game and percentage
clear of bottom-placed Melbourne.
