Envoy criticizes U.S. meddling in Iraq
TEHRAN, Nov. 8 (MNA) -- Iranian Ambassador to Baghdad Hassan Danaiifar criticized the U.S. for interfering in Iraq’s internal affairs.
“U.S. interference in Iraq has had negative impacts on the country and has resulted in increased terrorist acts in the country", Danaiifar said.
The United States claims it has been fighting terrorism in Iraq since it invaded the country in 2003, he said, adding that even U.S. military commanders have themselves confirmed their failure in the campaign against terrorism.
Despite the fact that the U.S. has withdrawn many of its troops from Iraq, 50,000 American troops still remain in the country for what the U.S. calls training purposes.
The ambassador also rejected rumors that Tehran interferes in Iraq’s internal affairs, saying Iran does not support any specific candidate for the prime ministerial post.
Elsewhere in his remarks, he said Iran and Iraq as two neighbors with long history of relationship enjoy numerous religious and cultural bonds.
