Putin to attend Beijing Olympics as guest of honor
MOSCOW, August 6 (Itar-Tass) -- Prime Minister Vladimir Putin will pay a working visit to Beijing on August 8-9.
Putin will take part in a gala ceremony of opening of the 29th Summer Olympic Games as a guest of honor, a source from the Russian government told Tass on Wednesday. The visit had been planned long before when Vladimir Putin was the Russian president.
Putin's visit to Beijing is of special importance in light of the
preparations for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi the prime minister
personally supervises, and a link between his visit to Beijing and the
Sochi Olympics is obvious, the source said.
Putin's work schedule in Beijing is very busy and intensive. On August 8 Putin is to meet Premier of the State Council of China Wen Jiabao, US President George Bush, IOC President Jacques Rogge, Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev. Vladimir Putin will attend a gala dinner that will be given by the Chinese leadership in honor of distinguished guests of the Beijing Olympics.
