Japan should stop heating public opinion with Kuril issue-diplomat

MOSCOW, August 6 (Itar-Tass) - Japan should stop the artificial and unfriendly heating of the public opinion with respect to Russia by using the so-called problem of "northern territories," Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexei Borodavkin stated on Wednesday.
"We've repeatedly underlined that the development of friendship, trust and partnership between Moscow and Tokyo would contribute to headway in the Russian-Japanese border delineation," Borodavkin stressed in an interview with the newspaper Vremya Novostei.
"Russia does much for Russian citizens to have positive sentiments
about Japan, its history, culture and the activity of the Japanese
business circles in our country. One would wish Japan to stop the
artificially unfriendly heating of the public opinion with respect to
Russia by using the so-called problem of northern territories," the
diplomat said.
As a positive example resolving border disputes, Alexei Borodavkin
cited an agreement between Russia and China. "Two great powers, having
shown mutual respect for each other's interests and a civilized approach to handling matters, found solutions of the most sensitive territories issues, which burdened the Russian-Chinese relations for decades," the deputy foreign minister noted.
"It can be asserted without false modesty that Moscow and Beijing have shown a positive example to those states, which, regrettably, have not yet matured to understand that border problems can be settled not by bringing forward maximum demands, but only on the basis of good neighborly relations," Borodavkin said.
