Russian flag goes up at Russian Olympic House
BEIJING, August 6 (Itar-Tass) -- The Russian white-blue-red state flag has been hoisted above an official residence of the Russian Olympic Committee that for the period of the Games has been given a status of the national "Olympic Consulate".
"This territory is very important for Russian sportsmen. This is a
place where Russian sportsmen traditionally get together after
competitions. It is very important that they are welcomed by the press and television. Russia should know its heroes," said President of the Russian Olympic Committee Leonid Tyagachev.
"Today's ceremony signifies that we are fully prepared to welcome the Olympic contestants, their fans and numerous guests," said head of the Russian House press service Olga Yutkis. The red color that symbolizes joy, holiday, beauty and prosperity domineers in the decorations of the Russian House. This color well harmonizes with the Russian symbol of the Beijing Games - a red firebird, she said.
An official ceremony of opening the Russian Olympic Consulate will be held on August 7.
