HOME MINISTRY DENIES WIKILEAKS EXPOSE OF M`SIAN COMPANIES
PUTRAJAYA, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The Home Ministry has denied that two
Malaysian companies had acted as front companies of Iran to source missile
technology from China.
Its minister Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the two companies had
been monitored by Malaysian intelligence agencies since 2008 and never at any
time did they pose any threat to national security.
"They were also never involved in any suspicious activities during that
period," he told a press conference here Friday which was also attended by
Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar.
Hishammuddin said this when asked to comment on an expose on the Wikileaks
website which said that the United States had issued warnings about the two
companies.
Wikileaks is a website that makes classified information available to the
public.
Hishammuddin also reassured Malaysians they need not worry about the
security situation in the country as everything was well under control.
He said the Home, Defence and Foreign ministries were working in concert to
ensure that the security and safety of the people would be assured at all times.
On another matter, Hishammuddin said proposals calling for the Internal
Security Act detention period to be reduced from 60 to 30 days would be studied.
"In the interests of transparency, all suggestions will be brought before
Parliament," he said.
