MALAYSIA INCREASES PEACEKEEPING PERSONNEL IN LEBANON

BAGAN DATOH (Malaysia), Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The government has asked the
Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) to increase its members in the Malaysian Battalion
2 (Malbatt 2) carrying out a peacekeeping mission under the United Nations
Interim Force in Lebanon (Unifil).

Defence Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said 100 additional
members would be sent to join the existing 510 personnel there.

These additional members would be deployed starting next month until
October, he told reporters after launching a circumsion programme in Bagan
Datoh, here Saturday.

"The team will consist of members from the Engineering Corps who will help
repair and build infrastructure in the country," he added.
