Flood water covers over 1,000 ha of farmland in Thoulakhom

(KPL) The flood water covered 1,859 ha of farmlands in Thoulakhom district,
Vientiane province leading to rice were damaged.
Mr. Khamla Vongsypasom, an officer of the Agriculture and Forestry Office of
Thoulakhom district said on 4 August this rainy season, the farmers of
Thoulakhom district planned to grow the rainy season rice on 9,140 hectares
and the second rice crop on 2,000 hectares.However, the flood water damaged
many hectares of agricultural product: 892 hectares for rice, 827 hectares
for maize, 49 hectares for banana, 31 hectares for papaya, 32 hectares for
vegetables and 28 hectares for aquaculture. "
The flood water covered certain parts of 13 villages in Vientiane province,
such as Ban Hathsay, Ban Pongphao, Ban Lingsanh, Ban Thinkham, Ban Cheng,
Ban Hathseal, Ban Phoneyeng, Ban Choum, Ban Tangpeal, Ban Hathson, Ban
Nongphong, Ban Napheng and Ban Nonghaikham.
The authorities of the district monitored the flooding, informed the top
leaders of the flood condition, made plans to purchase maize and rice seeds
to supply farmers for replanting. They also stocked up on the medicine which
could be used to prevent the people and animals from being infected with any
kind of disease.
