OPPOSITION LEADERSHIP ARE ANTI-NATIONAL, STRUGGLING FOR SELF-INTEREST :MSIAN PM
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- Najib Tun Razak said the leadership
of the opposition parties are actually struggling to achieve certain objectives
to gain power, and are bound to resolving their personal problems to the extent
that they are prepared to deceive the people.
The Malaysian Prime Minister said that based on this reality, the people and
leaders of National Front (Barisan Nasional - BN) must be wary because the
opposition leaders were prepared to do anything to achieve their objectives
including tarnishing Malaysia's image abroad.
Barisan Nasional (National Front; commonly abbreviated as BN) is a major
political coalition in Malaysia. Formed in 1973 as the successor to the
Alliance, it has been Malaysia's ruling political party since independence.
"Beware everyone, they are very dangerous. I want to point out here, they
are anti-national.
"We must go all out and ensure that this country is not destroyed by their
evil activities," he said when delivering his message at the BN Convention at
Wisma MCA, here Sunday.
In his message themed 'Strengthening the Barisan (Front), Priority for the
People, Najib, who is also the BN chairman, said the efforts by the opposition
parties to try and emulate the BN in terms of cooperation involving all the
component parties representing the various races were pointless because they did
not have the formula for sincerity, vision and values that were shared together.
He said the names for the opposition pact such as 'Gagasan Rakyat (Ideas
People)', 'Angkatan Perpaduan Ummah' (Ummah Unity Force), 'Barisan Alternatif'
(Alternative Front) and 'Pakatan Rakyat' (People's Alliance), or any others,
were merely an attempt by the opposition to unite but this might not
last long as each of them were insincere or 'double-faced'.
He said that based on history, it was clear that the cooperation would not
last because the objectives of the opposition parties were merely to cheat and
divert the people's thinking.
"Between the DAP (Democratic Action Party) and PAS (Pan-Malaysia Islamic
Party), for example, they can only sleep on the same bed but have different
dreams. They appear to be united, purely because there is a third person.
The Democratic Action Party, or DAP is a secular, multi-racial, social
democratic Malaysian political party while PAS is an Islamist political party in
Malaysia.
"What I mean is that if there was the Spirit of 46 Malay Party previously,
today that role has been taken over by People's Justice Party (Party Keadilan
Rakyat - PKR)," he said.
The People's Justice Party, often known simply as KeADILan is a centrist
political party in Malaysia formed in 2003 by a merger of the National Justice
Party and the older Malaysian People's Party.
Semangat 46, the The United Malays National Organisation (Umno) splinter
party, had previously cooperated with PAS and DAP in two general elections in
the 1990's before its leader dissolved the party in 1997 to rejoin Umno.
UMNO is Malaysia's largest political party; a founding member of the Barisan
Nasional coalition, which has played a dominant role in Malaysian politics since
independence.
Meanwhile, Najib criticised the opposition parties that proudly claimed they
were a democratic party representing all the races but in actual fact, they were
very different from the BN.
"Just look at the PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat), from their line-up of seven
top leadership, only one represents the Chinese. Meanwhile, the Indians who
represent their second largest membership with more than 20 per cent of the
total, do not have even one representative at the top party level," he said.
Najib said the opposition parties also tried to emulate Umno by introducing
a new type of election for their leadership to the extent that the opposition
parties were becoming uncomfortable and chaotic.
"We understand that they are following the English saying 'imitation is
the best form of flattery'. It is very obvious, whenever we make political
changes and reforms which are internal in nature, it scares them to the extent
that they become chaotic and want to copy.
"The lesson here is that when other people want to copy, certainly what we
are doing is correct," he said.
Najib also touched on the integrity of the opposition parties that was
actually being doubted by the party members themselves.
He said members of the party, particularly the PKR, had revolted, and were
dissatisfied, disappointed, and had created trouble, hurled chairs and many had
taken various issues to court besides the drastic changes in the party election
results which placed doubts on the process carried out.
The prime minister said the newspapers had also reported on the number of
key leaders who had left the PKR including its vice-president,
secretary-general, Youth chief, Youth vice-head, information chief, state
chairmen, and division chiefs.
"Thus, it is most appropriate if we call the PKR as 'Parti Keluar
Ramai-ramai' (En Masse Resignation Party)," he said.
The prime minister said the PKR had also become desperate to gain the
people's sympathy to the extent that its president, Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail
had suggested that PKR de facto leader, Anwar Ibrahim was
'God-sent'.
"Is this a new 'ijtihad' or another form of deviationist teachings. We have
had enough of this deviationist drama!" he said.
Thus, Najib hoped the people would not be easily influenced by such muddled
thinking and reminded them that it was not the responsibility of the 'rakyat' or
people to resolve the problems of the leaders, in fact, it was the leaders who
must be present to resolve the people's problems.
"This is the difference between us and the opposition parties because the BN
is a party that really feels the pulse of the people and is championing their
cause," he said.
Najib also said that the opposition parties now did not reflect the plural
society concept but was a "party of two families with one party merely becoming
'yes men' or work horses".
"Here, I wish to tell them (opposition), concede and be transparent.
"If the leadership statistics and actual party membership according to race
are exposed, it is very apparent that they are actually a one-race party which
is using chauvinism as a philosophy of their struggles from before until now,"
he said.
In addition, Najib was also confused that PAS, which claimed that it was a
political party based on Islamic teachings, was willing to cooperate with other
groups of leaders who were lying, forgers of documents, traitors to their race
and country.
The prime minister also reminded the people to realise and understand that
the opposition parties were insincere, most opportunistic and full of hypocracy.
He said the whole country certainly remembered the ambition and lies of the
opposition party to form the federal government on Sept 16 last year which
eventually became the biggest lie in the country's political history.
"We know that they very much desire to have an office in Putrajaya, to live
in Seri Perdana (Prime Minister's Official residence). That is why they are
willing to do anything, merely to wrest power and from time to time behave
rudely and greedily," her said.
Najib also reminded members of the BN component parties not to allow what
they had built all this while to be destroyed by those who were power-hungry.
"As such, no matter what happens, we must defend Putrajaya not because of
our ego or narrow personal interest, but in the interest of the whole Malaysian
population," he added.
