MSIA KEEN TO LOOK AT SOUTH KOREA'S EXPERTISE IN NUCLEAR TECHNOLOGY
PUTRAJAYA, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is keen to look into great detail
Korea's acknowleged leadership in nuclear technology including smart
nuclear reactors or small scale nuclear reactors, said Prime Minister
Najib Tun Razak.
"There is a need to have a follow-up action and therefore we propose the
creation of a Malaysia-Republic Korea Business Council so that the private
sector between the two countries can explore and discuss ways and means to
enhance partnership between them," he said during a joint press conference with
South Korea President, Lee Myung-Bak here.
Malaysia is also looking into the strength that Korean companies have in
green technology, renewable technology as well as alternative technology, he
said.
Both countries signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) late last year on
the Exchange of Technical Information and Cooperation in Nuclear and Radiation
Safety.
At their bilateral meeting earlier Friday, both leaders shared the view that
nuclear energy could play an important role as a safe, sustainable and less
polluting source of energy.
Lee and Najib had also agreed to further cooperate on the peaceful uses of
nuclear energy as agreed upon in the 2009 MoU.
