UNIMAP, LA TROBE UNIVERSITI TO STEP UP COOPERATION From Adnan Jahaya

MELBOURNE, Dec 13 (Bernama) -- University Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and La
Trobe University here will step up cooperation, including through exchange
programmes involving students and staff.

The Crown Prince of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is
UniMAP Chancellor, said the cooperation between the two universities was forged
since the signing of a memorandum of understanding in 2007.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is here to lead the UniMAP delegation for a round
table meeting with La Trobe University, expressed confidence of better
cooperation ahead between the two universities.

The UniMAP delegation included chairman of its board of directors, Zainul
Ariff Hussain and Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Kamarudin Hussin, while La Trobe
University was represented by its chancellor, Sylvia Walton, vice-chancellor
Prof Paul Johnson and deputy vice-chancellor Prof John Rosenberg.

During the meeting, UniMap offered to have a chair for professors from La
Trobe University to carry out research and projects that involve development of
Perlis and conduct research on herbal medicine and set up a herbal-based medical
centre in Perlis.

UniMAP also offered to be a member of the International Network of
University (INU), of which La Trobe University is already a member.

"Until now, UniMAP has forged 67 cooperation with institutions of higher
learning in 24 countries," said the Crown Prince, who was accompanied by
his consort Tuanku Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah.

They were former students of La Trobe University.
