MASWINGS READY TO SERVE BIMP-EAGA REGION
KOTA KINABALU (Sabah, Malaysia), Dec 17 (Bernama) -- MASwings is ready to
expand its service network to the BIMP-EAGA growth area and is just awaiting the
green light from the Transport Ministry.
Its managing director Mohd Salleh Ahmad Tabrani said MASwings had sufficient
logistics in terms of technical expertise and staff.
He was speaking to the media here after presenting certificates to 13 Cabin
Crew graduates.
He also highlighted that MASwings had notched an on-time performance of 94
per cent this year,compared to an average 92.9 percent in 2009.
According to Mohd Salleh, MASwings has also achieved a 100 per cent growth
in flights over a three-year period, from only 450 weekly in 2007 to
approximately 900 or 46,800 flights in 2010.
He also said MASwings flew an average of 45,000 passengers monthly in 2007
and this number had increased to an average of 104,000 this year, representing a
growth of more than 130 per cent over a three-year period.
The Brunei Darussalam-Indonesia-Malaysia-Philippines East ASEAN Growth Area
(BIMP-EAGA) was launched in 1994 as a cooperation initiative by the four
national governments to close the development gap across and within the EAGA
member countries as well as across the Asean-6 member states.
