PM'S WIFE PROPOSES INTERNATIONAL QURAN RECITAL FOR VISUALLY IMPAIRED

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 18 (Bernama)-- The prime minister's wife Rosmah Mansor has
proposed an international Quran recital event for the visually impaired, which
will help portray Malaysia as a dynamic and progressive Islamic country.

Rosmah made the proposal at the "Kasih Sejuta Harapan" event themed
"Generating Ummah (Muslim Commmunity) Transformation Through the Quran", here,
Friday night.

She also handed out Braille copies of the Quran to 200 visually-impaired
individuals.

Rosmah said the effort of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to produce
Braille Quran which received the recognition of the Malaysia Islamic Development
Department (Jakim) was commendable.

"They not only teach but have produced Braille Quran for the visually impaired,"
she said.

She hoped that more Braille Quran classes would be opened to enable more people
from this group to learn the Quran.
