MALAYSIA-UK SIGN MOU ON IMMIGRATION COOPERATION IN JANUARY
PUTRAJAYA, Dec 23 (Bernama) -- The Cabinet Wednesday agreed on the
suggestion to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cooperation in
immigration between Malaysia and the United Kingdom which will be signed in
January in Kuala Lumpur.
Home Minister Hishammuddin Tun Hussein said the latest decision
was a major agenda which was most significant to ties between the two nations
which had long been established encompassing various fields such as trade,
investment and higher education.
He said the MoU was the third of its kind signed with other countries in the
field of immigration after Australia and the Netherlands.
"The proposal for the MoU was made by the UK after a series of negotiations
between Malaysia and that country with regard to efforts in tackling the forgery
of travel documents since 2008.
"This move was the first of its kind between the two countries in forging
cooperation formally in matters concerning immigration," he said in a statement,
here Wednesday.
