RACIAL UNITY SHOULD BE INCULCATED FROM YOUTH, SAYS ACTIVIST

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 27 (Bernama) -- Early steps should be taken to ensure that
the education system in this country continues to inculcate unity and prevent
racial polarisation, 1Malaysia Foundation trustee member Lee Lam Thye
said Sunday.

He said that school was the most appropriate place to promote racial
integration among the young, and teachers and parents should play their role to
achieve the objective.

"Today's students are tomorrow's leaders and the responsibility has been put
on their shoulders to build a united Malaysian nation with a common goal," he
said in a statement.

He said that public and private institutions of higher learning too should
promote unity.

Lee said that racial unity and harmony should be part of the culture that
gives the various races opportunities to establish a close friendship.
