MALAYSIA READY TO HOST LE TOUR DE LANGKAWI

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 4 (Bernama) -- Malaysia is ready to host the 16th Le Tour de
Langkawi (LTdL) although the cycling race is still 20 days away.

"We are 99 percent ready to host the prestigious event at any time," LTdL chief
operating officer Mohamed Salleh told Bernama Monday.

He said some 1,125 volunteers will be deployed during the race starting Jan 23
adding preparation to host LTdL began as early as June last year.

The race covers ten stages in Peninsular Malaysia states - Kedah, Perlis,
Penang, Perak, Selangor, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Putrajaya and Kuala
Lumpur.

Langkawi, the Jewel of Kedah is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea,
some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. The islands are a
part of the state of Kedah, which is adjacent to the Thai border.
