LADA INTENSIFIES TOURISM PROMOTION IN SINGAPORE, INDIA, MID-EAST
LANGKAWI (Malaysia), Jan 10 (Bernama) -- The Langkawi Development Authority
(Lada) will intensify its promotional efforts in Singapore, India and the Middle
East this year, its tourism manager Megat Shaharul Azman Abas said.
The focus would be on Singapore as it served as the hub to attract tourists
from the republic and others who were on transit there, he added.
"We target 2.5 million domestic and foreign visitors to come to the resort
island this year," he told Bernama here Monday.
He said last year's target was 2.4 million and the total number of visitors
from January to November was 2.1 million.
Megat Shaharul Azman said Langkawi would be busy with activities throughout
the year starting with Royal Langkawi International Regatta 2011 from Jan 11-15
as the curtain raiser for this year's calendar.
Besides that, he said, the Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace
(Lima 2011) exhibition would be held in December.
There would also be the Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) cycling race from Jan 23
to Feb 1, he added.
LTdL, the prestigous cycling championship in the region, will return here
after skipping the resort island for several years.
Megat Shaharul Azman said other events were the Ekspo Otop 2011 in April,
Malaysian Tourism Expo on May 23 and the International Geopark Youth Tennis in
December.
He said Langkawi had been offered to host the International Tennis Futures
Championship by the International Tennis Federation this year, featuring world
ranking players.
