MALAYSIAN DPM VISITS PREMIER COLLEGE OF MUSIC

BOSTON, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin visited the world
renown Berklee College of Music here, the academy of choice of Malaysian
students of music.

The Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister wanted to know what could be done to
increase the intake of Malaysians and how the college could help to develop
music education in Malaysia.

Vice-president of student affairs Lawrence E. Bethune briefed the Deputy
Prime Minister on the achievements of the college in the graduates that it
produced the last 50 years.

At the end of Monday's hour-long visit, Muhyiddin said: "This college is
the first choice of many Malaysian students because it is very famous and has
the best teaching staff in the world."

He said that many students from the International College of Music in Kuala
Lumpur had come to Berklee, and advised others wanting to further their musical
education to do the same if they could.

The college in Kuala Lumpur, which is listed in the Berklee
International
Network, has a credit hours exchange programme with the American academy.

Muhyiddin understands that the programme allows students to study for two
years at the International College of Music in Kuala Lumpur and two years in
Berklee for their first degree.

Muhyiddin, accompanied by his wife Norainee Abdul Rahman, is on a
six-day working visit to the United States.
