ASEAN TELECOMMUNICATIONS MINISTERS MEETING BEGINS
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- The two-day 10th Asean Telecommunications and
Information Technology Ministers Meeting (Telmin) was declared open Thursday by
Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Earlier Najib received a courtesy call by Telmin leaders at the Tun Sri Lanang
Room of the Royale Chulan Hotel where the meeting is held.
There are three sessions Thursday, chaired by Information Communication and
Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim.
Thursday's programme ends with a gala dinner at the Kuala Lumpur Convention
Centre.
The highlight of the 10th Telmin is the launching of the Asean ICT Master Plan
2015 tomorrow -- a strategic document to bring the Asean ICT sector to a higher
level and to reinforce the role of ICT for Asean integration.
The Telmin was preceded by the three-day 11th Asean Telecommunications and
Information Technology Senior Officials Meeting which ended Wednesday and
attended by the regional grouping's dialogue partners.
The meeting, which carries the theme "ICT: Positioning Asean for the Future" is
aimed at forging stronger ties among the regional telecommunications fraternity.
Asean comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
