MODERATE EARTHQUAKE HITS PHILIPPINE ISLANDS

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 13 (Bernama) -- A moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the
Richter scale hit Philippine islands region at 6.20pm today, the Malaysian
Meteorological Department said.

It said in a statement that the epicentre of the quake was 158km southeast
of Davao, the Philippines and 986km northeast of Lahad Datu in the east
Malaysian state of Sabah.

The earthquake posed no tsunami threat, it said.
