ASEAN TELMIN TO LAUNCH ICT MASTERPLAN

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- The second day of the Asean
Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministers Meeting (Telmin) kicked
off this morning with Asean ministers meeting their counterparts from dialogue
partners, China and South Korea.

The Telmin leaders are expected to finalise the road map for the Asean ICT
Masterplan 2015 and endorse it later today before its launching by Information
Communication and Culture Minister Dr Rais Yatim.

The plan is a strategic document to bring the Asean ICT sector to a higher
level and to reinforce the role of ICT for Asean integration.

The Masterplan 2015 will help stimulate the regional economy and also pave
the way for a long-term economic prosperity.

The meeting, which carries the theme "ICT: Positioning Asean for the
Future", is aimed at forging stronger ties among the regional telecommunications
fraternity.

Asean comprises Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the
Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
