IRANIAN WITH DRUGS IN STOMACH DIES

PUTRAJAYA, Jan 14 (Bernama) -- An Iranian who had apparently smuggled drugs
into the country by carrying them in his stomach has died of excessive bleeding
after the capsules containing the syabu burst, police said Friday.

The travel document of the man showed that he went by the name of Fathollah
Mahadi and was 52, said Putrajaya police chief ACP Abdul Razak Abdul Majid.

He said Fathollah died at 9.14am Friday at the intensive care unit of the
Putrajaya Hospital.

He had been operated on at the hospital after complaining of severe
abdominal pain at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) in Sepang Thursday, and
137 capsules of syabu weighing 765 grams were removed from his stomach.

Abdul Razak said the police did not have much information about Fathollah
and were still investigating how he had come into the country.

He said Fathollah's body was being kept at the Putrajaya Hospital mortuary
pending the investigation and the Iranian embassy in Kuala Lumpur would be
contacted for the burial.
