PM NAJIB WISHES MALAYSIAN TAMILS "HAPPY PONGGAL"

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak
Friday wished Malaysian Tamils a "Happy Ponggal".

"In the spirit of 1Malaysia, I invite fellow Malaysians to join me in
wishing Tamil Malaysians a very happy Ponggal, and may good fortune spill over,"
he said in his Ponggal message on his Facebook.

Ponggal denotes the start of the month of "Thai" in the Tamil calendar, and
is welcomed with sweet rice for family and friends and the giving of thanks for
an abundant harvest.

The festival is celebrated over four days with different activities.
