ONLY FORMER SOLDIERS FROM NEPAL ALLOWED TO BE ENGAGED AS SECURITY GUARDS

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 15 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia government only allows
Nepalese nationals who were former soldiers to be engaged as security guards in
this country for a specified period.

The Secretary of the Security and Public Order Division of the Home
Ministry, Awang Din Hussin, said there were 5,376 Nepalese nationals allowed to
work as security guards in the country currently.

"It can't be denied that some companies try to reap higher profit by using
foreigners as security guards.

"Realising this, the ministry has entered into engagement with the relevant
agencies to handle the employment of foreigners as security guards," he said in
a statement, here Friday.

The statement aimed to clarify the issue on a report by a local newspaper
that stated there were 30,000 illegal security guards in the country.

He said the ministry took a serious view on the matter because security
guards were controlled by foreigners and this had placed the security of the
public in an unsafe situation.

The ministry would not hesitate to take appropriate action against companies
that engaged foreign security guards, he added.
