AUSHERITAGE COLLABORATES WITH PENANG ON CONSERVATION COOPERATION PROGRAMME

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Beginning this month, Australia's
international network for cultural heritage or AusHeritage, and the Penang Heritage
Trust will collaborate on a five-month heritage conservation cooperation programme.

The programme would include a series of lectures-cum-workshops by Australian
experts in various aspects of cultural heritage management and conservation,
said the Australian High Commission in a statement.

Mary Knaggs, senior heritage architect of the New South Wales Government
Architect's Office, and Peter Romey, a partner in Godden Mackay Logan Heritage
Consultants, will deliver the first set of talks in late January.

They will speak on heritage management plans and implementation of heritage
legislation and regulations, respectively.

"Having recently visited Penang and seen its wonderful heritage buildings, I am
very supportive of this close collaboration," Australian High Commissioner to
Malaysia Miles Kupa said in a statement here Monday.

Chair of AusHeritage Vinod Daniel noted that heritage practitioners from both
countries had collaborated on a number of projects over the last two decades.

He said AusHeritage would extend its cooperation with a number of other
Malaysian heritage bodies, as well.

AusHeritage members include Australian universities, national collecting
institutions, state galleries, libraries and museums, private architectural
firms and private and government conservation services.
