WOMEN RAPID BUS SERVICES ADD ON ROUTES
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- The Wanita (Women) Rapid Bus servicelaunched
Monday will ply 15 selected routes to provide a more comfortable and safe travel
experience for female passengers.
The special service will start full operations Tuesday, with two buses allocated
for each route during the day and evening.
Speaking to reporters after launching the facility at the Putra World Trade
Centre (PWTC), here, Women, Family and Community Development Minister Shahrizat
Abdul Jalil said the Wanita Rapid Bus was the best public transport choice for
women.
"This is in response to the safety issues raised over women's safety and their
lack of comfort during peak hours. Now they have a choice to use a female-only
bus or a regular bus," she said.
During the launch, she also announced an addition of eight routes to the seven
routes introduced during the trial run of the Wanita Rapid Bas service last
month.
Seven initial routes were implemented in two sessions, during the day at 6.45am
and 7.30am as well as in the evening at 6pm and 6.45pm.
Kumpulan Bas Syarikat Prasarana Negara Berhad (Prasarana) director Mohamed
Hazlan Mohamed Hussain said a survey conducted during the trial period on
extending Wanita Rapid Bus services revealed the move was supported by 92 per
cent of 1,400 respondents.
At the same event, Prasarana also displayed the Universal Access bus prototype
for the convenience of passengers, including the disabled, and vans which will
be used as special transport services for the disabled called Rapid Mobiliti.
Both are to be launched soon.
