MORE MEDIA PRACTITIONERS INVITED TO JOIN TERRITORIAL ARMY

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- The Territorial Army hopes more
journalists will join the Media Regiment to be set up in July 2010.

Staff Officer II, Lt Col Yaakob Hashim said of the 35 media practitioners who
had registered, only 14 had started training since November last year.

He said the numbers were not enough to form a platoon that will be named Platoon
Media and Cyber Askar Wataniah.

"We welcome the support and encourage more media personnel to join the
Territorial Army to experience for themselves, the reality of the armed forces
and how they function," he told Bernama Tuesday.

Yaakob said there should be at least 30 personnel to complete the setting up of
a platoon because it was officially launched on March 1, by Defence Minister Dr
Ahmad Zahid Hamidi at the Defence Ministry.

He said by joining the army, the media would be able to understand and be
equipped with the necessary experience and exposure to face situation at places
where the army operates

"They will be given training and function as a media platoon and other security
aspects," he said.
