MALAYSIAN TUNES PERFORMED AT OMAN CONCERT FOR PM'S WIFE

By Muin Abdul Majid

MUSCAT, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- The visiting Malaysian delegation headed by Rosmah
Mansor was pleasantly surprised when two Malaysian tunes were beautifully
performed at a concert featuring mainly Oman's traditional music and dances here
Monday night.

Malaysians in the audience clapped and sang along, while the songs, 'Joget
Pahang' and a theme song of 1Malaysia, were performed by members of the First
Royal Band for Music and Folklore.

The Arabic-tinged music arrangement suited the Malaysian melodies well, as an
Omani choir sang the songs in Malay.

The musical programme was held in honour of Rosmah, wife of Malaysian Prime
Minister Najib Razak, who is making a four-day visit to the sultanate.

The musicians and singers were given a big round of applause at the end of the
performance.

At a gathering with members of the Malaysian community later, Rosmah said she
had explained to some of the Omani guests present at the concert that 'Joget
Pahang' was named after a state in Peninsular Malaysia where Najib was born.
