US$1.9 MLN FOR FT DAY CELEBRATION
PUTRAJAYA, Jan 27 (Bernama) -- The Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing Ministry is allocating RM5.67 million (US$1.856 million) for various events in conjunction with the celebrations for the Federal Territories Day on Tuesday.
Its minister, Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said the amount was slightly more than last year's allocation of RM5.3 million, and members of the public would be offered various goodies for the first time this year, including discounts on rental of facilities belonging to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) such as sports venues, multipurpose halls and community centres throughout the month.
"The giving of the goodies and other programmes arranged throughout the celebration are to enable residents in the Federal Territories to appreciate the events so that they will be united in developing the territories to achieve the target set," he told reporters, here Wednesday.
Raja Nong Chik said the other 'goodies' included free membership to the Kuala Lumpur Library for registration made throughout next month and a 50 per cent discount for admission to the KL Bird Park, Taman Tasik Perdana on Tuesdays only.
He said Malaysians were also exempted from the fee charged to ride on the 'KL Hop On Hop Off' bus while a 50 per cent discount would be given to foreigners on the same Tuesdays.
