HEALTH TEAM AT ALL FLOOD EVACUATION CENTRES

BENTONG (Pahang, Malaysia), Jan 31 (Bernama) -- The Health Ministry has set up health teams at all flood evacuation centres to monitor the cleanliness of the food, water and health situation there.

The teams were also set up in Tenang and Segamat which were now affected by the flood following continuous heavy rain, said Health Minister Liow Tiong Lai said Monday at the Chinese New Year celebrations and Road Safety Campaign organised by MTD Prime Sdn Bhd at the Bentong Lay-by.

He advised members of the public affected by the flood to refrain from playing in the flood water to prevent from being infected by the leptospirosis bacteria or rat urine.

"During the flood, the bacteria spread easily when one has an open wound on the leg or any part of the body. If immediate treatment is not sought, it could be fatal," he said.

Meanwhile, the Eastern Region Director of the Malaysian Highway Authority (MHA), Husain Osman said the MHA would constantly patrol hilly areas which were prone to landslides along the Karak Highway during the rainy season.

"So far, there has not been any report of landslides and patrols would be intensified," he said.

Earlier at the function, Liow gave away hampers and angpow to about 200 residents of the 'Rumah Sejahtera Bentong', and several inmates of drug rehabilitation centres in Karak, Bentong and Ceria besides motorists at the Bentong Toll Plaza.
