Kuala Lumpur Has Reached Modern City Status Claim Residents, Tourists

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) Though Malaysia has yet to achieve
developed nation status, city residents and foreign tourists claim that Kuala
Lumpur has already reached modern city status with regards to its world-class
facilities.

A survey by Bernama around the city in conjunction with the 37th Federal
Territories Day celebrations revealed that the public found it safe and
convenient to travel in the city because of sufficient infrastructure
facilities.

Mohamed Idris Mohd Nor, 32, from Ampang, who used the public holiday to
bring his parents and children to Zoo Negara today, said moving about town with
the family was easy.

"I feel Kuala Lumpur is a very modern city now because there is plenty of
parking space, transport facilities and best of all, safe and clean food is easy
to find," he told Bernama.

Meanwhile, 45-year-old S. Jayganthan also expressed his pride with Kuala
Lumpur's rapid development which is popular among tourists worldwide.

"There are many foreign tourists at the National Zoo and they seem happy to
explore the city because of its sophisticated and comfortable facilities," he
said.

For Irish tourist Oliver Roche, 37, Tuesday was also a good day to bring his
wife and kids to the zoo in conjunction with Federal Territories Day.

He said, "Speaking of being modern, I think Kuala Lumpur has reached
that stage especially with world class facilities available here with modern
transportation, world-class airport and a clean environment.

"I have been working here for the past two years and really love the
environment, especially the people of various cultures, and it is unique that
people from different races can live together in peace and harmony.

"Kuala Lumpur is well organised and equipped with all the modern needs
of the people here and it is fantastic," he added.

Although many agree with the modernization, they also felt some improvement
was needed to enhance the beauty of the city in terms of cleanliness and traffic
congestion.

On Monday, Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak in his Facebook said he
wanted all Malaysians to find ways to turn Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan
into world-class Federal Territories that are on par with other cities.
