Talabani, Melkert discuss Iraq’s political situation
Baghdad (NINA) –President Jalal Talabani discussed with the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Iraq (SRSG),Mr. Ad Melkert, political developments in Iraq.
A statement issued on Thursday, Feb. 3, by the President’s Office said, “Talabani and Melkert discussed in their meeting the political developments in Iraq and the make up of its government.”
They also discussed efforts exerted to deal with political, security and humanitarian issues.
In the meeting, Talabani presented a detailed review of the developments and understandings reached that push forward the political process, as well as Iraq’a relations with its neighbors.
For his part, SRSG praised the President’s concerns and efforts exerted in safeguarding Iraqi Christians toward protecting them remain in Iraq in safe and secure situation.
Melkert expressed the UN’s readiness to provide all assistances required that can the international organization offer.
