Council Tightens School Nutrition Norms

Doha, February 03 (QNA) - The Supreme Education Council (SEC) has issued new guidelines to monitor nutrition provided to students by private and independent schools as well as suppliers.
The School Canteen Standing Committee has tightened the nutrition monitoring norms for all schools to ensure safe food is provided to all students, the SEC said in a media statement released Thursday.
The Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary General of the SEC, HE Saad bin Ibrahim Al Mahmoud endorsed the new norms.
All school canteens and suppliers will have to observe the new norms for the academic year 2010-11.
Director of the Schools Canteens Unit Sheikha Al Sayyed said, the new norms will ensure the provision of safe food for all students based on their age groups as well as qualify food suppliers and develop monitoring methods.
