EFFORTS TO EVACUATE MALAYSIANS REFLECT GOVERNMENT'S CONCERN

CAIRO, Feb 4 (Bernama) -- Efforts made to evacuate Malaysians from Egypt, like using aircraft from the Malaysian Armed Forces, AirAsia and Malaysia
Airlines (MAS) reflected the government's concern for its citizens.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom said it was in line with the 1Malaysia slogan "People First, Performance Now".
"Today is another proof which shows Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's concern for the people and always put the people's interests ahead.
"My group, together with the 1Malaysia Putera Club and other agencies, are here to bring back our students and citizens home safely.
"To parents and citizens at home, pray for out safety," he told reporters here.
He also advised parents to liaise with Wisma Putra (Foreign Ministry) and the relevant agencies to obtain latest information on the development in Egypt, instead of listening to unverified reports.
Meanwhile, Deputy Foreign Minister A. Kohilan Pillay expected the mission to evacuate Malaysians from Egypt to be completed by Sunday, adding that three Royal Malaysian Air Force C-130 and a ship would be used Saturday to evacuate the students to Jeddah in Saudi Arabia.
"After that, we will think of a way to bring them back to Malaysia or back to Egypt again," he added.
1Malaysia Putera Club president, Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said the club members were in Egypt on the Prime Minister's directive to assist in the evacuation of Malaysian students there.
He said the club would look into the needs of the affected students before they were taken out of Egypt to Jeddah.
