Attiyah Hails HH the Emir Support of GCC Advisory Board

Abu Dhabi (QNA) - HE GCC Secretary General Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al Attiyah hailed HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani's support of the Advisory Board of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), saying that it has made an impact on the Advisory Board's functions.
Addressing the first meeting of the 14th session of the Advisory Board of the GCC Supreme Council held in Abu Dhabi, Al Attiyah also praised the GCC leaders' support of the Advisory Board.
GCC leaders assigned the advisory board to study the alternative energy and its exports development and to unite the efforts of member States in the field of translation and Arabization, he said.
Al Attiyah affirmed that the Advisory Board, established by a decision of the GCC leaders in GCC's 1997 Kuwait Summitin, has provided in-depth studies related to all aspects of life in the GCC countries.
The establishment of the Advisory Board is one of the most important achievements of the GCC joint action, the Secretary General said, describing it as a good supportive of the Supreme Council.
The GCC Secretary-General noted to the achievements made by the joint GCC march in Abu Dhabi summit, held last December, saying that the Supreme Council gave directives to implement what was agreed upon regarding to the vision of the State of Qatar on the activation of the GCC role in the framework of the Common Gulf Market, and the vision of the Kingdom of Bahrain for the development of the Cooperation Council.
Meanwhile, Al Attiyah stressed the importance of GCC leaders to adopt the Long-Term Comprehensive Development Strategy 2000-2025 and the general framework of a standard statistics strategy.
Al-Attiyah said that GCC leaders' approval on a number of laws and regulations, particularly in the executive, legislative and judicial fields represents a quantum leap in the framework of the GCC march.
In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), HE the GCC Secretary General Abdul Rahman bin Hamad Al Attiyah said that completing the cycle of citizens movement among member states by Identity Cards resulted in a significant impact in deepening GCC citizenship and increased communication as will as intensified the trade exchange between GCC countries.
He stressed that this year will witness the preparation of a report of GCC population, which reflects the annual developments of the population and the pros that have been achieved through the implementation of the population policies.
In regard to the peaceful use of nuclear energy, especially in the areas of electricity and water desalination, Al Attiyah noted to the consulting agreement with US Lightbridge company for assessment of the GCC's nuclear energy development, adding that the GCC Secretariat General is working in the field of environment to establish a "GCC Centre for Disaster Control".
