KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- Association of Wives of Ministers and
Deputy Ministers (Bakti) president Rosmah Mansor Tuesday called on the
private sector to increase donations to welfare homes and organisations in the country.
The donations were vital in reducing the burden of the needy in their daily lives, she said during Bakti's visit to Sau Seng Lum (SSL) Haemodialysis Welfare Foundation's Dialysis & Stroke Rehabilitation Centre in Puchong here Tuesday.
The prime minister's wife also said that all Malaysians should contribute reasonably to Persons With Disabilities to ease their burden.
"Although Bakti is among the many non-governmental organisations (NGOs) which has been active in helping the underprivileged in the country, there are still many obstacles that it has to face, especially in terms of funds.
"Hence, I'm asking all Malaysians to help ensure that welfare homes and organisations are given reasonable donations, whether in terms of cash or other assistance and aid, so that the needy will be able to enjoy a better life," she said.
Rosmah also believed that with cooperation from all quarters, including NGOS and corporate bodies, the concept of 1Malaysia could be strengthened to achieve the government's aspiration to produce a united and caring society.
As for Bakti, she said, the association would continue implementing charity programmes and activities to achieve the aspiration, besides closing the gap between the needy and the rest of the society.
"Bakti will always participate and play its role to help the underprivileged regardless of their race and beliefs, especially when they are preparing for a festive celebration," she said.
During the visit, Rosmah also opened the SSL Paediatric Rehabilitation
Centre and presented a donation of RM20,000 to the SSL Welfare Foundation.
The SSL Paediatric Rehabilitation Centre was established to help children in need of physiotherapy, speech therapy and counselling.
