MU LEGENDS COMING TO MALAYSIA IN APRIL
KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysian football fans will have an opportunity to meet two former Manchester United players - Bryan Robson and Andrew Cole (Andy Cole) - who will stopover here during their three-city Asian Tour in April to help raise funds for the Manchester United Foundation.
Kuala Lumpur will be their second destination where they will appear at the
Manchester United Foundation and Unicef Legends Charity Dinner in association
with Telekom Malaysia Berhad at the Mandarin Oriental on April 8.
The duo, Old Trafford's greatest heroes, will also be visiting Bangkok
on April 6 and Hong Kong on April 9.
"A number of unique Manchester United items will be up for auction and all
proceeds will go to the club's charitable projects. In addition, club partner,
Hubolt has donated one of its exceptional time pieces for each event," said the
foundation in a statement Tuesday.
Robson, 54, fondly known as 'Captain Marvel' was the longest serving captain
in the club history. He is currently Thailand's national team head coach.
Cole, 40, who scored 187 Premier League goals, is the second highest goal
scorer in the premiership history behind Alan Shearer who has 260 goals.
Robson and Cole will help raise 1 million pounds (about RM4.9 million) for
the Unicef and Manchester United Foundation.
Since 1999, Manchester United had partnered the United Nations Children's
Fund (Unicef) and raised over 2 million pounds (about RM9.8 million) for Unicef
programmes.
The collaboration project has benefited children across the world which
includes many projects in Asia such as building schools in Myanmar, reduce
impact of HIV in Vietnam and Malaysia and protect women and children against
trafficking in China.
"We are thrilled to have both Bryan and Andrew join the Asian fundraising
tour to support the United for Unicef and the Manchester United Foundation. As a
club, one of our greatest responsibilities is towards improving the lives of the
next generation.
"Through our fundraising activities this year, we hope to raise 1 million
Pounds to benefit projects which have a positive impact on the health of
children through Unicef's work," said Manchester United Foundation chief
executive, John Shield as quoted in the statement.
