MISSION ACCOMPLISHED, SAYS PUTERA 1MALAYSIA CLUB
SEPANG (Malaysia), Feb 10 (Bernama) -- The Putera 1Malaysia Club has
successfully completed their mission to help evacuate Malaysian students from
Egypt as directed by Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Its president, Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim, said despite various challenges they
managed to execute and completed the mission.
"I thank the Prime Minister for giving us the opportunity to carry out the
mission.
"I'm glad we made it although some of our personnel were detained, our food was
seized and we were threatened with AK-47 rifles, among others," he told
reporters when met upon arrival at the KL International Airport.
Abdul Azeez said although they were detained by residents and security forces in
Egypt, the Putera 1Malaysia Club members was unharmed because they were from
Malaysia.
He said this was due to the good relations between Najib and other world
leaders, especially Egypt.
"We were released after being questioned after they heard that we are from
Malaysia.
"We have to write Malaysia on our flag because maybe they arrested us thinking
we are from the United States. After questioning and finding that we are from
Malaysia we were released," he said.
Abdul Azeez said he received calls almost every hour from Najib who wanted to
know about the safety of Malaysian students in Egypt.
"I was touched that Najib and his wife called us frequently to find out the
latest development although they were also informed by the National Security
Council and the armed forces.
"They also asked for reports from us," he added.
