Malaysia and Syria DPM'S hold talks

PUTRAJAYA (Bernama) - Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Syria's Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Abdullah Al-Dardari Thursday held four-eyed talks on bilateral matters of economic and trade interests for about an hour at a hotel here.
Abdullah arrived in Malaysia on Wednesday for a four-day visit accompanied by Syria's Assistant Foreign Minister Ahmad Arnous and senior government officials.
He is scheduled to call on Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and have talks with Foreign Minister Anifah Aman and International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamad.
He is also scheduled to have discussions in Kuala Lumpur Friday with 40 selected contractors on the economic growth of Syria and investment opportunities there.
Syria was one of Malaysia's major trading partners in the Middle East last year, chalking up trade to the tune of RM573.78 million (US$188.297 million).
