Muslim NGO'S Thank Malaysia PM Over Ops Piramid Exercise
PUTRAJAYA, Feb 10 (Bernama) -- The Federation of Muslim Non-Governmental
Organisations Thursday expressed appreciation to Prime Minister Najib Razak on
the successful "Ops Pyramid" exercise to fly back Malaysian citizens and
students from strife-torn Egypt.
Malaysian Islamic Consumers Association (PPIM) Secretary-General Dr Maamor
Osman, representing the federation of 60 associations, handed a memorandum
expressing appreciation and gratitude to Najib at the Prime Minister's Office
here.
Dr Maamor said that at the meeting with Najib, the federation extended its
appreciation and congratulations to the prime minister and his team which
managed to evacuate Malaysians safely from Egypt in a short time.
"This is proof that if we focus on the 'People First' slogan, work as a team
and concentrate on resolving problems, any difficulty can be overcome," he told
reporters after handing over the memorandum.
Dr Maamor said the federation asked the prime minister to enable the
students to continue their studies either in Malaysia or anywhere else.
"And, when the situation in Egypt is safe again, they should be sent back at
government expense," he said.
He said the federation proposed that the government set up a tertiary
institution in Malaysia similar to Al-Azhar University as it was seen as the
best measure to provide the right education in meeting demand.
He said more than 10,000 Malaysian students pursued tertiary education in
Egypt, many of them at the Al-Azhar University and that graduates of the
institution were in high demand in Southeast Asia.
