VISITING SYRIAN DPM CALLS ON MALAYSIAN PM NAJIB




PUTRAJAYA, Feb 11 (Bernama) -- Syria's Deputy Prime Minister for Economic
Affairs Abdullah Al-Dardari Friday called on Prime Minister Najib Tun
Razak at the Prime Minister's Office here.

The two leaders engaged in talks for about an hour on issues of bilateral
interest, particularly pertaining to economic and trade matters.

Abdullah arrived in Malaysia on Wednesday for a four-day visit accompanied
by Syria's Assistant Foreign Minister Ahmad Arnous and senior government
officials.

He is scheduled to have discussions in Kuala Lumpur later Friday with 40
selected contractors on the economic growth of Syria and investment
opportunities there.

Syria was one of Malaysia's major trading partners in the Middle East last
year, chalking up trade to the tune of RM573.78 million. (US$1=RM3.03)
