HH Sheikha Moza Attends George Town University New Building
(QNA) - HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser, Chairperson of Qatar Foundation for Education Science and Community Development (QF) attended this evening the official inauguration ceremony of George Town University new building in the Education city.
The ceremony was also attended by HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Emiri Diwan Sheikh Mohamed Bin Hamad Al Thani, senior leadership from the Qatar Foundation community, distinguished guests from Georgetown University s home campus and the entire School of Foreign Service Qatar student body.
Prior to the official inauguration of the new building, a special VIP tour was organized for HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser HE Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of Emiri Diwan, along with other distinguished guests.
The memorable official inauguration of the School of Foreign Service in Qatar at Georgetown university marked an important milestone in the history of the University's valued partnership with Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF).
HH Sheikha Moza said: " When Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development (QF) was established in 1995, our goal was to build an organization committed to unlocking human potential by building a platform for a knowledge-based economy and fostering a culture of quality and excellence".
In remarks she gave in a book issued on the building celebration's occasion HH Sheikh Moza said: "Through education, research and community development, the Foundation has been a cradle of innovation, based in the Middle East, but global in scope and impact".
In 2005, when George Town School of Foreign Service first opened its doors here in Qatar, we found a partner who shared our vision. Georgetown's commitment to educating lifelong learners, dedicated to justice and the common good, echo the standards that have made Qatar Foundation so successful.'
" The opening of this new building represents a deepening of this partnership. The building blends a rich cultural tradition with an equally rich educational tradition and the state of the art facilities enable research and education as well as sparking inspiration. Also housing a public library , it is a building that is designee to make knowledge accessible and to bring people together," HH Sheikha Moza added
For his part, Vice President of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development HE Dr. Abdullah bin Ali Al-Thani said: "This evening another important chapter opens in the history of the Edmund A Walsh School of Foreign Service in Qatar, and in the relationship between Georgetown University and Qatar Foundation.
" During the last five years, Georgetown has brought to Qatar the fine quality of its teaching in Washington , DC. Already the third class will graduate this May," Dr. Sheikh Abdullah said.
He noted that the School of Foreign Service in Qatar is now an active partner in the continuing development of a world-class centre of academic excellence at the Education City.
Dr. Sheikh Abdullah added that when HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani and HH Sheikha Moza bin Nasser established Qatar Foundation in 1995, they knew our country-and our region- needed to develop a wide range of skills so that we could play a full role in our rapidly developing world.
HE Sheikh Mohamed bin Hamad Al Thani, Chairman of Qatar 2022 World Cup Bid Committee expressed pride in his capacity as a graduate of the School of Georgetown University School of Foreign Service in Qatar in 2009 and the opening of this new building with its advanced facilities which will push students towards further success.
In a speech he gave at the inauguration ceremony, HE Sheikh Mohamed said "I am proud to be part of this prestigious university and one of its graduates."
For his part, HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Chief of the Emiri Diwan Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Attiyah said Georgetown University's celebration marking the inauguration of the new building is a symbol for the celebration of the future whichis represented in the youth and the education which represent the continuity of the advancement of the State of Qatar.
