HIGHER EDUCATION MINISTRY TO SEND OFFICERS TO EGYPT
JOHOR BAHARU (Malaysia), Feb 14 (Bernama) – The Higher Education Ministry will
send its officers to Egypt to identify university officials in that country who
can make decisions in allowing Malaysian students to sit for examinations there.
Its minister, Mohamed Khaled Nordin said following the power transition by the
military after the resignation of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak recently, the
ministry had faced difficulty in contacting university officials in that
country.
"We have to contact the university officials there to discuss whether Malaysian
sudents can sit for their examinations here or to postpone the examination if
the approval could not be given," he said.
He said this to reporters after launching the Chinese New Year celebration
organised by the Pasir Gudang MCA Coordinating Committee for all Sub-Districts
in the Johor Jaya state constituency, here Sunday.
Mohamed Khaled said his ministry was still waiting for the assessment on the
security situation in Egypt by the National Security Council (NSC) before
sending its officers there.
A total of 1,200 medical students had yet to sit for the examinationscheduled to
start yesterday, comprising 1,000 students from Tanta University and another 200
from the University of Al-Azhar.
