18 SOLDIERS, CIVILIANS INJURED IN YALA BOMBING
By Jamaluddin Muhammad
BANGKOK, Feb 14 (Bernama) -– Eighteen soldiers and civilians were injured when a
20kg homemade bomb hidden in a pick-up exploded in the Yala city centre Sunday.
A Yala police spokesman said seven were seriously injured and admitted to the
Yala Hospital.
The rest with minor injuries received outpatient treatment at the hospital.
It could not be determined at the moment on the exact number of soldiers and
civilians injured in the 9.50am incident.
Initial investigations based on a closed-circuit television camera in the area
showed that a man parked his pick-up in the city centre about 7.30am before the
bomb was remotely detonated when soldiers were passing the area, said the
spokesman.
He said fire caused by the explosion had also damaged 12 wooden shops with
losses estimated at 10 million Baht (about RM1 million).
Firemen spent about three hours to contain the blaze.
