Child Care Centres In Banks Set To Gain Momentum

KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama) -- The setting up of child care centres in banks throughout the country is set to gain momentum once the campaign of the National Union of Bank Employees (NUBE) campaign on it goes into full swing this month.

Its general secretary, J. Solomon, said Monday that early indications were that many banks were receptive to the idea as it would benefit their staff and help increase productivity.

He said it was hoped that banks would give their full commitment to the project as it was part of their corporate responsibility to provide such facilities for their staff.

Solomon told Bernama that such centres were essential, especially in urban areas, because of the high cost of living and the difficulty in finding domestic maids.

On another matter, he said that as a service to its members, NUBE had entered into a joint-venture project with REDtone mobile company to provide special mobile phone packages at reduced rates for its 40,000 members.

Under the package members would enjoy 50 hours of free calls and 300 free SMS every month among themselves and their families.
