M'sian medic students scored good results at Moscow university

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 17 (Bernama) -- The 20 Malaysian medical students who graduated from the First Moscow State Medical University (MSMU) in Russia last year have made Malaysia proud, not only scoring honours in their degrees, one of them was awarded a gold medal for scoring the best result.

Its rector, Prof Dr Petr V. Globychko, who is also a member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, said out of 28 foreign students who scored honours, 20 were Malaysian students and one of the them was awarded the medal gold, "which means that for all the six years of studying, the student received not just good result, but the highest score."

The majority of Malaysian students who came to study at the university, especially those sponsored by the Public Service Department (JPA) and Mara were well trained, motivated and hardworking, he told a press conference at the Russian Centre of Science and Culture here Wednesday.

He said currently there are 859 Malaysian students, out of 2,500 foreign students studying at MSMU, and all of them are taking up medicine.

Dr Globychko, who arrived in Malaysia on Feb 9 for a two week visit, said in his meeting with the Higher Education Ministry, he had suggested that all Malaysian students pursuing their degree at the university must have a Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) issued by the ministry that is to certify that the student had meet the minimum requirements for overseas studies, and that the ministry had agreed to issue it for new students this year.
